The shell is Li-rare while the core is still Li-rich. The lithium content in the core is similar to that of commercial LiCoO2. Suppose that there is no lithium ion in the shell (composed of Co2O3 and Co3O4) and the core is still LiCoO2, the thickness of the shell should be over 15% of the particle diameter for the coated LiCoO2.
