The jib would release the aircraft which would enter a conventional hover then slowly transition to forward flight. Recovery involved the pilot matching the ship's speed beneath the extended jib and waiting for the crane operator to snatch the aircraft. Once the aircraft was securely attached to the jib, the pilot would shut down the engine and the aircraft would be lowered to the ship's deck. This extraordinary concept was called "SkyHook" and the technique was demonstrated using a landbased crane and the G-VTOL twoseater.
